- Proper alkalinity helps to prevent pool water from becoming corrosive to metal and plaster that may result in staining, etching or distorting of all types of pool surfaces
- Eliminates pH bounce by buffering the water against large pH changes
- Total alkalinity in pool water should be maintained in the range of 80-125 ppm for plaster finishes and 125-150ppm for vinyl, fiberglass and other non-masonry finishes
- Too low alkalinity can cause spa water to become corrosive to metal and may cause etching or staining on spa surfaces.
